Farnesyl diphosphate synthase pseudogene 7 (FDPSP7) is one of several pseudogenes related to the gene coding for farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FDPS), which catalyzes essential steps in the biosynthesis of farnesyl diphosphate, a key intermediate in the production of sterols and isoprenoids. FDPSP7 is classified as a pseudogene—a non-functional genomic segment derived from the duplication or retrotransposition of an ancestral FDPS gene—and it does not encode an active enzyme. While the functional FDPS enzyme is a therapeutic target for drugs such as bisphosphonates and is involved in diseases of isoprenoid metabolism and bone resorption, FDPSP7 itself does not have a known functional protein product or a role as a drug target in human biology[1][3][7].
