Overview

FARS2 antisense RNA 1 (FARS2-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense transcript overlapping, or located adjacent to, the FARS2 gene locus. As an antisense RNA, its potential function is to regulate the transcription or stability of the FARS2 mRNA, which encodes mitochondrial phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetase—a key enzyme in mitochondrial protein translation. Like other lncRNAs and antisense RNAs, FARS2-AS1 may act in cis (at its own locus) or in trans (at distant loci) to influence gene expression through diverse mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or RNA-RNA interactions. However, no detailed characterization, biological function, or disease association has been specifically reported for FARS2-AS1 itself in recent scientific literature or genetic databases. In summary, FARS2-AS1 is best classified as a long non-coding antisense RNA with poorly defined function and no evidence as a current or imminent therapeutic target.
