Fas Ligand Protein (CD95 Ligand)

Target
CD95 Ligand
Molecular classification
Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily, Type-II transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Fas Ligand (CD95 Ligand) is a type-II transmembrane protein belonging to the TNF superfamily. It is primarily expressed by cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natural killer cells and plays a critical role in regulating immune homeostasis by inducing apoptosis in target cells expressing the Fas receptor (CD95). This interaction is crucial for eliminating virus-infected cells, cancer cells, and autoreactive T cells, as well as maintaining immune privilege. Dysregulation or mutations in FasL can lead to autoimmune diseases like ALPS.
