Overview

A fatty acid analogue is a molecule structurally similar to natural fatty acids but modified in some way—often by the addition of functional groups, fluorophores, or other chemical changes—to alter its properties or enable specific experimental uses. These analogues are widely used as probes in biochemical research to study lipid metabolism, membrane dynamics, protein-lipid interactions, and transport mechanisms. Examples include BODIPY-FL C16 FA, cis-parinaric acid, pyrene-C16 FA, DAUDA.
