Target intelligence / Profile preview
FABP4 is a member of the fatty acid-binding protein family, primarily expressed in adipocytes and macrophages. It plays important roles in lipid metabolism, energy homeostasis, and inflammation. It facilitates intracellular transport of fatty acids, regulates lipid storage and mobilization, and modulates PPARγ activity. Elevated circulating levels are associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular disease. It is also implicated in cancer progression.
Therapeutic targeting/inhibition of FABP4 is proposed for treatment/prevention strategies against metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus or cardiovascular disorders due to its central role linking lipid handling to inflammation/metabolic dysfunctions
