Fatty acid-binding protein 5 (FABP5), also known as epidermal or cutaneous FABP, is a member of the fatty acid binding protein family. This small, cytoplasmic protein binds long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands, playing a central role in lipid metabolism and transport. Overexpression or dysregulation of FABP5 has been linked with several diseases including psoriasis, metabolic disorders, and cancer. Targeting FABP5 could have therapeutic potential for conditions involving dysregulated endocannabinoid signaling or keratinocyte proliferation disorders.
Phytocannabinoids inhibit endocannabinoid uptake by targeting FABP5. Delivery of retinoic acid to nuclear receptors like PPARβ/δ, promoting cell proliferation/survival. Modulation of docetaxel sensitivity in prostate cancer cells.
