Fatty acid-binding protein 5 pseudogene 3 (FABP5P3) is classified as a pseudogene in humans; it is predicted to possess fatty acid binding activity and may be involved in fatty acid transport based on sequence similarity, but there is no evidence of functional protein product or established biological role. FABP5P3 is related to the fatty acid-binding protein family, whose active members act as intracellular carriers for long-chain fatty acids and other lipophilic substances, facilitating their transport within the cell. However, as a pseudogene, FABP5P3 is not known to encode a functional protein or serve as a therapeutic target, and at present, no small-molecule drugs or biological modulators are reported to interact with it[1][2][5][8]. Disease associations, such as those with hepatocellular carcinoma, are inferred from correlation studies and are not based on direct mechanistic data[1][7].
