The fatty acid synthetase complex (FAS) is a large, multifunctional enzyme complex responsible for the de novo synthesis of long-chain saturated fatty acids from acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA in the presence of NADPH. Its primary product is palmitate (C16:0). Plays a central role in lipid metabolism and dysregulation is linked to diseases such as cancer, obesity, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
