Fatty acyl CoA reductase 2 pseudogene (ENSG00000257644) is a nonfunctional DNA sequence similar to the protein-coding fatty acyl CoA reductase 2 gene (FAR2). It does not produce a functional protein and is not involved in known biological pathways or disease processes. Pseudogenes like this are remnants of gene duplication or reverse transcription events and are generally considered “junk DNA.” While the genuine FAR2 enzyme catalyzes fatty alcohol biosynthesis and plays roles in lipid metabolism and tissue physiology, the pseudogene version is not functional and should not be considered a drug target or biomarker[1][3][4][5].
