Overview

FAU pseudogene 2 (FAUP2) is a non-coding genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene of the FAU gene, annotated by some databases as RPS30_1_440[1][3]. Unlike its parent gene FAU, which encodes a fusion of a ubiquitin-like protein (fubi) and ribosomal protein S30—a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit—FAUP2 does not encode a functional protein. While pseudogenes can sometimes play roles in gene regulation or act as sources of genetic material for gene conversion events, the specific functional significance of FAUP2 has not been established[2][3]. It is not considered a conventional drug target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. In summary, FAUP2 is a pseudogene with no evidence supporting its role as a therapeutic target, and there is no current evidence for involvement in disease, pharmacology, or as a biomarker. Inclusion as a drug target would be incorrect based on current knowledge.

Biological functions

Other (no established protein-coding or molecular function; may serve as a non-coding regulatory sequence in rare cases, as can be the case for some pseudogenes[2])
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease association, but in rare scenarios, pseudogenes may be involved in gene regulation or genomic instability[2])
