Overview

FBXL19 antisense RNA 1 (FBXL19-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) found to be overexpressed in multiple solid tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma, breast cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and osteosarcoma[1][2][3][4]. It mainly resides in the cytoplasm and acts as a competing endogenous RNA, sequestering various tumor-suppressive microRNAs (e.g., miR-876-5p, miR-193a-5p, miR-20b-5p) and thereby regulating the expression of oncogenic mRNAs such as FOXM1 and PIN1[1][2][3]. FBXL19-AS1 contributes to cancer progression by promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, inhibiting apoptosis, and influencing cancer-related signaling pathways such as mTOR, MAPK, PI3K-Akt, Wnt, and p53 pathways[1][4]. In hepatocellular carcinoma, FBXL19-AS1 expression correlates with advanced disease and poor prognosis; it may enhance tumor development by stabilizing its sense gene FBXL19, which affects macrophage polarization and the tumor immune microenvironment[1]. FBXL19-AS1 has shown potential as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in several tumor types[1][4], but it is not currently recognized as a direct therapeutic target or as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or classical signaling molecule.
