Overview
Fc epsilon RI (FcεRI) is the high-affinity receptor for immunoglobulin E (IgE), playing a central role in allergic responses and immune defense against parasites. It is a multimeric receptor complex expressed mainly on mast cells and basophils, but also on other immune cells. Crosslinking of IgE bound to FcεRI by allergens triggers degranulation and release of inflammatory mediators, leading to allergic symptoms. It is a critical target for therapies aimed at treating allergies or modulating immune responses involving mast cell activation.
