Fc gamma receptors (FcγRs) are a family of cell surface glycoproteins that bind to the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. They play a central role in linking humoral and cellular immune responses by facilitating communication between antibodies and effector cells of the immune system. These receptors are essential for various immune functions, including phagocytosis, antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), degranulation, cytokine production, B cell activation, and clearance of immune complexes. Different subtypes exist (FcγRI, FcγRII, FcγRIII) with varying affinities and expression patterns, influencing immune responses and susceptibility to disease. They are important therapeutic targets, especially for monoclonal antibody therapies.
