Fc receptors for IgG, known as Fc gamma receptors (FcγRs), are cell surface proteins that bind to the Fc region of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. These receptors play a central role in linking humoral and cellular immune responses by recognizing antibody-coated pathogens or cells and mediating various effector functions. The main types include activating receptors (FcγRI, FcγRIIA, FcγRIIC, FcγRIIIA, FcγRIIIB) and an inhibitory receptor (FcγRIIB). The neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) is primarily involved in IgG recycling and transport. They mediate various functions including phagocytosis, ADCC, and immune complex clearance, and are implicated in autoimmune diseases and defense against infections.
