Fc receptor on phagocyte (FcR)

Target
FcR
Molecular classification
Receptor, Cell surface receptor, Immunoglobulin receptor
01

Overview

Fc receptors (FcRs) are cell surface glycoproteins found on various immune cells, including phagocytes such as macrophages and neutrophils. Their primary function is to bind the Fc region of antibodies that are attached to pathogens or infected cells, thereby linking humoral and cellular immunity. This interaction triggers a range of immune responses, most notably phagocytosis—the engulfment and destruction of antibody-coated targets. Activation typically involves Immunoreceptor Tyrosine-based Activation Motifs (ITAMs) within or associated with receptor subunits.
