Fc receptor on phagocytes (FcR)

Target
FcR
Molecular classification
Receptor, Transmembrane protein, Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

Fc receptors (FcRs) are cell surface glycoproteins found on phagocytes that bind the Fc region of antibodies, particularly IgG, when it is complexed to antigen. This interaction triggers effector functions like phagocytosis and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. Different subtypes of FcRs exist, with varying affinities for IgG and distinct signaling properties (activating vs. inhibitory). Therapeutic strategies targeting FcRs aim to modulate immune responses in inflammatory diseases, often through competitive inhibition using IVIG.
