FCF1 pseudogene 7 (FCF1P7) is a non-protein coding sequence in the human genome related by sequence similarity to the FCF1 gene (FCF1 rRNA-processing protein homolog). Pseudogenes are classified as genomic elements that resemble functional genes but have been rendered non-functional by mutation, duplication, or retrotransposition events. There is no evidence that FCF1P7 produces a functional RNA or protein, nor is there any reliable report of biological function, therapeutic relevance, disease association, or drug interaction for this pseudogene. The canonical functional gene is "FCF1 rRNA-processing protein homolog". FCF1P7 is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor and should not be considered a therapeutic target. There is no substantial information in the scientific literature regarding FCF1P7's biological or clinical significance; it is one among thousands of human pseudogenes. Pseudogenes in general may participate in regulation through RNA-level mechanisms (e.g., as microRNA decoys or interfering RNAs), but this has not been shown for FCF1P7 specifically.
