Fel d 1 protein (Fel d 1)

Target
Fel d 1
Molecular classification
Secretoglobin, Glycoprotein, Allergen
01

Overview

Fel d 1 is the primary allergen produced by domestic cats, responsible for the majority of allergic reactions in humans exposed to cats. It is a secretoglobin protein complex, encoded by two genes, and is found predominantly in cat saliva, sebaceous glands, skin, and other anatomical areas. While its precise physiological function remains unclear, it is hypothesized to bind lipids or steroids and acts as an immune modulator. It activates TLR4/MD2 and TLR2 signaling pathways, contributing to allergic inflammation.
