Overview

The femur is the largest and strongest bone in the human body, extending from the hip to the knee, and composed of compact bone (outer layer) and spongy bone (inner layer). Its local bone tissue contains osteoblasts (form bone), osteoclasts (degrade bone), and osteocytes (maintain bone matrix), all embedded within a mineral-rich extracellular matrix. The bone tissue provides crucial mechanical support, hosts bone marrow for blood cell production, and serves as a reservoir for minerals. Disorders of the femur bone include fractures, osteomyelitis, tumors, and metabolic bone diseases
