Overview

FERM and PDZ domain-containing protein 3 (FRMPD3) is a cytoplasmic protein encoded by the FRMPD3 gene and characterized by the presence of a PDZ domain at the N-terminus and a FERM domain. The PDZ domain mediates specific protein-protein interactions by binding to other proteins’ C-terminal peptides, while the FERM domain is typically associated with the plasma membrane and the actin cytoskeleton. FRMPD3 is involved in cellular signal transduction and the structural organization of protein complexes at the membrane. It is considered an adaptor or scaffold protein rather than a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or ion channel. Although some FRMPD family members, such as FRMPD4, are implicated in synaptic function and intellectual disability in related studies, there is limited evidence directly linking FRMPD3 to disease or pharmacological modulation[1][4][6].
