Target intelligence / Profile preview
FERM domain containing protein 8 (FRMD8) is a cytoskeletal adaptor protein characterized by the presence of a “FERM” (4.1 protein, Ezrin, Radixin, Moesin) domain at its N-terminus, enabling membrane association and interactions with other cytoskeletal proteins. As a member of the FERM domain-containing superfamily, FRMD8/Ehm2 participates in the linkage of the actin cytoskeleton to the plasma membrane, regulation of cellular migration, and possibly in cell signaling pathways relevant to cancer development and wound healing. FRMD8 has been found overexpressed in some metastatic cell lines and tissues, with ongoing research into its functional significance and potential as a disease marker or therapeutic target. Its biological roles reflect those of the FERM protein family, which underlie essential processes such as cell polarity, motility, and structural integrity at the cell membrane interface. While FERM domain-containing proteins are a well-defined molecular class and established as critical for cell structure and function, the specific therapeutic significance of FRMD8 as a direct drug target is still under investigation, and no approved drug directly targets this molecule as of now.
No drugs with a defined mechanism of action for FRMD8 are currently available. General FERM domain protein mechanisms include modulation of actin-cytoskeleton dynamics, regulation of membrane-associated signaling pathways, and acting as adaptors for signaling molecule recruitment.
