Iron ions (Fe2+ and Fe3+) are essential inorganic ions that play crucial roles in various biological processes, including oxygen transport, electron transfer, and enzyme catalysis. They are not direct therapeutic targets in the traditional sense, but rather critical components of biological systems that are modulated by drugs.
