Overview

Ferritin heavy chain 1 pseudogene 10 (FTH1P10) is a human pseudogene, classified as a non-coding homolog of the protein-coding ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) gene[5]. It does not encode a functional protein, but recent research on the broader FTH1 pseudogene family suggests that such pseudogenes can regulate their parental gene transcripts through microRNA (miRNA) networks, acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) to sequester oncogenic miRNAs[6]. This activity has been shown in other FTH1 pseudogenes (not FTH1P10 specifically, but examples include FTH1P11 and FTH1P16), contributing to the regulation of iron homeostasis and tumor suppression in prostate cancer models[6]. No evidence supports FTH1P10 as a direct therapeutic target, nor as a source of functional protein, but it may participate in non-coding RNA networks that modulate cancer biology.
