Ferritin heavy chain 1 pseudogene 12 (FTH1P12) is a processed human pseudogene related to the FTH1 gene, which encodes the heavy chain of ferritin, the major intracellular iron storage protein. Unlike its parent gene, FTH1P12 does not code for a functional protein, and no direct biological or clinical significance has been described. Its main annotation is as a pseudogene, and it should not be mistaken for an active protein-coding gene or therapeutic target. Pseudogenes like FTH1P12 are generally considered non-functional remnants of genes but can sometimes play regulatory roles at the RNA level (such as miRNA sponging); these functions have not been validated for FTH1P12 specifically. There are numerous FTH1 pseudogenes, but only a handful (such as FTH1P11 and FTH1P16) have been shown to have functional effects via non-coding RNA mechanisms in cancer models. FTH1P12 is listed in gene databases as a pseudogene without association to protein expression, disease, or drug interactions.
