Overview

Ferritin heavy chain 1 pseudogene 15 (FTH1P15) is one of many processed pseudogenes derived from the ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) gene. Like other pseudogenes in the ferritin family, FTH1P15 does not encode a functional protein. Although pseudogenes were historically thought to be non-functional, it is now understood that they can participate in gene regulation at the RNA level. Some ferritin pseudogenes have been shown to act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), bind microRNAs, or generate small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), thereby affecting the expression of their functional gene relatives and potentially influencing cellular homeostasis or disease processes such as cancer[6]. However, there are no current data specifically identifying FTH1P15 as a direct therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease driver in its own right. It is part of the broader ferritin pseudogene network that modulates iron metabolism through post-transcriptional regulation[6].

FTH1 pseudogene 15
02

Mechanism of action

None applicable (no direct protein product, no inhibitors or ligands)

03

Biological functions

May act as a regulatory element at the RNA level (via miRNA/ceRNA mechanisms, as described for other FTH1 pseudogenes)Does not encode a protein
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct protein function, but ferritin family pseudogenes have been implicated in gene expression regulation, possibly affecting cancer and cell metabolism indirectly)
05

Biomarkers

None directly established; however, some pseudogenes of FTH1 (not specifically FTH1P15) have been investigated as biomarkers in some settings
