Overview

Ferritin heavy chain 1 pseudogene 26 (FTH1P26) is a human pseudogene derived from the ferritin heavy chain 1 (FTH1) gene[1]. Pseudogenes of FTH1, including FTH1P26, do not encode functional protein[4][5]. Instead, they can participate in gene regulation by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), sequestering microRNAs that would otherwise bind to FTH1 mRNA[4][5]. This network of FTH1 and its pseudogenes has been implicated in modulating iron homeostasis and tumor suppression, particularly in the context of prostate cancer, though the best-studied FTH1 pseudogenes for such functional roles are FTH1P11 and FTH1P16[4][5]. The specific biological or disease roles of FTH1P26 have not been individually characterized but it is assumed to be part of the broader FTH1 pseudogene family regulatory network. As a pseudogene, FTH1P26 is not a direct therapeutic target and no drugs or mechanisms of action are associated with it.
