Overview

Ferritin heavy chain 1 pseudogene 29 (*FTH1P29*) is a *processed pseudogene* derived from the ferritin heavy chain gene (*FTH1*). Like other *FTH1* family pseudogenes, *FTH1P29* does not code for a functional protein, but its transcript may participate in gene regulation via non-coding RNA mechanisms. Specifically, some pseudogenes in the *FTH1* family, although not experimentally confirmed for *FTH1P29* specifically, are known to function as competing endogenous RNAs, sequestering microRNAs (miRNAs) and modulating the availability of functional *FTH1* mRNA, thereby affecting cellular iron homeostasis and potentially tumorigenesis[2][5]. These “miRNA sponge” effects and gene regulatory functions are most relevant in the context of cancer biology, where disruptions in iron metabolism and ceRNA networks can promote tumor development or progression. There is no evidence that *FTH1P29* is itself a therapeutic target, encodes a receptor, or is associated with known interacting drugs, biomarkers, or safety considerations[1][4][5]. *FTH1P29* is properly named, with no indications of misspelling or excess ambiguity, and is not considered a direct receptor, enzyme, or other canonical drug target.
