Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ferritin heavy chain 1 pseudogene 7 (FTH1P7) is a member of the ferritin heavy chain pseudogene family. Pseudogenes like FTH1P7 are non-coding homologs derived from the parental FTH1 gene; they do not encode functional proteins. However, increasing evidence shows that many ferritin pseudogenes, including FTH1P7, play regulatory roles in the cell. They can act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that modulate the expression of the parental FTH1 gene by sponging microRNAs, particularly in tumorigenesis contexts such as prostate cancer[4][5]. FTH1P7 and similar pseudogenes have been implicated in regulatory networks influencing iron metabolism, cell proliferation, and potentially in cancer progression[4][5]. FTH1P7 is not a direct therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme and does not have known drug interactions. It is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it does not have canonical protein-coding or receptor functions, and thus is not a direct therapeutic target. Note: FTH1P7 is often confused with FTH1 (ferritin heavy chain 1), which does have critical roles in iron storage and is a functional protein and therapeutic interest. FTH1P7 is specifically a non-coding pseudogene and not a direct molecular target for drug development[1][4][5].
