Overview
Ferritin light chain is a protein subunit encoded by the FTL gene in humans. It forms part of the ferritin complex, which is the primary intracellular iron storage protein. The ferritin molecule is a heteropolymer composed of 24 subunits, including both heavy (FTH1) and light (FTL) chains. The light chain is crucial for iron storage and detoxification, and its dysregulation is linked to several diseases, including hyperferritinemia-cataract syndrome and neuroferritinopathy.
