Overview

Ferritin light chain pseudogene 1 (FTLP1) is classified as a processed pseudogene homologous to the FTL gene, which encodes the light chain of human ferritin responsible for iron storage within cells[1][2]. FTLP1 does not result in a functional protein. While most pseudogenes have historically been considered non-functional, recent studies propose that ferritin-related pseudogenes may modulate gene expression via miRNA binding and ceRNA effects. There is no evidence that FTLP1 itself is functionally characterized or relevant as a drug target or disease biomarker[1][2].
