Ferritin light chain pseudogene 16 (FTLP16)

Target
FTLP16
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene; not a protein-coding gene)
01

Overview

Ferritin light chain pseudogene 16 (FTLP16) is a pseudogene located in the human genome, recognized in the official gene nomenclature as HGNC:37966. Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes do not produce functional proteins, and FTLP16 does not have demonstrated biological activity, therapeutic relevance, or disease association. FTLP16 is part of a large family of ferritin light chain-related sequences, many of which are pseudogenes. In contrast, the functional ferritin light chain gene (FTL) encodes the light subunit of the ferritin protein, a major iron storage protein critical for iron homeostasis and neurological health. FTLP16 itself holds no known clinical or pharmacological significance.
