Overview

FGF10 antisense RNA 1 is a long noncoding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the FGF10 gene locus. It does not encode a protein but instead likely regulates the expression of its sense counterpart, FGF10. Quantitative studies have shown that in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues, FGF10-AS1 is significantly downregulated compared with adjacent normal tissues, and this downregulation correlates with advanced tumor stage, vascular invasion, lymphatic invasion, and poor differentiation. Conversely, upregulation of FGF10 (the sense gene) is associated with tumor progression. There is a strong negative correlation between the expression of FGF10 and its antisense RNA, suggesting that FGF10-AS1 might act as a tumor suppressor by modulating the activity of FGF10. The expression levels of both FGF10 and FGF10-AS1 are proposed as prognostic biomarkers for CRC, particularly as correlates of survival rate and disease progression. FGF10-AS1 is not a therapeutic target such as a receptor or enzyme, nor are any drugs currently known to interact with it or modulate its function directly. Its primary classification is as an lncRNA involved in cancer biology, potentially useful for diagnostic and prognostic applications[1].
