Overview

FGF14 antisense RNA 1 (FGF14-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the FGF14 gene locus. Like other antisense lncRNAs, FGF14-AS1 is presumed to regulate gene expression, often through mechanisms such as modulation of mRNA stability or translational regulation. While antisense lncRNAs are frequently implicated in cancer biology, either as tumor suppressors or oncogenes, direct published data on the functional role of FGF14-AS1 in human disease is extremely limited. By analogy to other well-studied antisense lncRNAs and related fibroblast growth factor antisense transcripts, it may participate in cell proliferation, migration, or apoptosis, potentially influencing tumorigenesis[3]. However, FGF14-AS1 is not currently recognized as a classical therapeutic target, and there are no approved drugs directed against it. There are references to a related transcript, FGF14-AS2, which has tumor suppressive roles in cancer, but for FGF14-AS1, direct evidence is lacking and its specific biological effects remain insufficiently described in the literature[3]. If you need details about the sense transcript, FGF14 (fibroblast growth factor 14), this is a protein-coding gene involved in regulation of voltage-gated sodium channels and has distinct disease relevance[1][2]. *Note: If you intended to refer to FGF14 (the protein) rather than FGF14-AS1, please clarify, as these are distinct entities in terms of function and druggability.*
