Fibrin-bound plasminogen refers to the inactive zymogen form of plasminogen specifically localized and bound to fibrin within a blood clot. This binding is a critical step in the regulation of fibrinolysis, the process by which blood clots are broken down. It serves as the substrate for tPA and uPA, and its activation leads to plasmin generation and clot dissolution.
tPA and uPA bind to fibrin-bound plasminogen and catalyze its conversion to plasmin, leading to fibrin degradation.
