The fibrinogen beta chain (FGB) is one of the three polypeptide chains (alpha, beta, gamma) composing the fibrinogen complex, a crucial glycoprotein in blood coagulation and wound healing. Encoded by the FGB gene on chromosome 4, it is cleaved by thrombin to form fibrin. Its interactions modulate platelet aggregation, inflammation, and immune responses, influencing clot structure and fibrinolysis. Mutations lead to conditions like afibrinogenemia and dysfibrinogenemia, manifesting as abnormal bleeding or increased thrombosis risk.
