Overview
Fibroblast growth factor 11 (FGF11) is a member of the intracellular fibroblast growth factor subfamily (also called FGF homologous factors, FHFs), which includes FGF11–FGF14[5][3]. Unlike classical FGFs, FGF11 does not bind or activate fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs) at the cell surface and is not secreted. Instead, FGF11 functions intracellularly, where it is involved in nervous system development and function, though its precise biological roles are not fully elucidated[3][5]. FGF11 is associated with some nervous system disorders such as developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, but it is not currently considered a therapeutic target, and there are no approved drugs or biomarkers based on this molecule[3].
