Overview
Fibroblast growth factor 18 (FGF18) is a protein that belongs to the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. It is involved in various biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, and regulation of cellular differentiation and migration. It promotes chondrogenesis, ossification, cell proliferation and is implicated in cancer progression.

Mechanism of action
FGF18 exerts its effects primarily through binding to fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs), which are receptor tyrosine kinases on the cell membrane. Ligand binding induces FGFR dimerization, autophosphorylation of their kinase domains, and activation of downstream signaling pathways such as ERK/MAPK and Akt-GSK3β/β-catenin.
