Overview

Fibroblast growth factor 7 pseudogene 8 (FGF7P8) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 16. It is derived from duplication or retrotransposition events of the functional FGF7 gene. Like most pseudogenes, FGF7P8 is considered nonfunctional in terms of encoding a protein; pseudogenes do not produce proteins and are generally regarded as genomic relics. Nonetheless, some pseudogenes can be transcribed and exert regulatory roles via RNA, including acting as decoys for microRNAs or generating short interfering RNAs, but there is currently no reported biological or clinical significance for FGF7P8 specifically. It is not used as a therapeutic target, is not known to participate in disease processes, and does not interact with any drugs.

Mechanism of action

None. No mechanisms of action are applicable since this is not a functional protein or therapeutic target

03

Biological functions

Other. Pseudogenes, including FGF7P8, generally do not encode functional proteins, though some pseudogenes are transcribed and may participate in gene regulation via regulatory RNAs or as decoys for microRNAs, but this is not documented specifically for FGF7P8 at this time
04

Disease associations

Other. There are no documented direct disease roles for FGF7P8 as a pseudogene. Generally, pseudogene deregulation can be involved in processes like cancer, but no known association is present for FGF7P8 specifically
