Fibroblast Growth Factor Ligand (FGF)

Target
FGF
Molecular classification
Polypeptide growth factor, Ligand, Secreted protein
01

Overview

Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are a family of polypeptide growth factors that regulate cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, migration, morphogenesis, and patterning. In humans, there are 18 secreted FGF ligands that interact with four main fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs).

Other names

02

Mechanism of action

FGF ligands bind to FGFRs, inducing receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation, activating downstream signaling pathways like RAS-MAPK, PI3K-AKT, PLCγ, and STAT.

Safety considerations

Disrupted regulation may lead to bone disorders, tumor formation, and progression due to altered control over cell proliferation, differentiation, and angiogenesis.Mutations in FGF ligands can disrupt normal signaling and lead to disease.
