It is related to the fibroblast growth factor receptor gene family, specifically FGFR3, but does not encode a functional protein. Its sequence resembles that of functional FGFR genes, which are involved in cell growth, differentiation, and development, but FGFR3P1 itself is not known to produce protein or possess known biological or therapeutic function. It has been given aliases such as FGFR6 and D84394.2. There are currently no established functions, disease associations, or therapeutic roles for this pseudogene in human genetics.
