Overview

Fibronectin leucine-rich transmembrane protein 1 (FLRT1) is a single-pass transmembrane protein that belongs to the FLRT family, sharing structural similarity with other small leucine-rich proteoglycans found in the extracellular matrix. FLRT1 is expressed predominantly in the brain and kidney. The protein plays important roles in both cell adhesion and receptor signaling, particularly by mediating interactions with fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR), which can activate MAP kinase signaling pathways and promote neurite outgrowth. FLRT1 is also implicated in the regulation of cell-cell adhesion and cell guidance through interactions with other surface molecules, including latrophilins (ADGRL1/LPHN1 and ADGRL3). Genetic variants in FLRT1 have been associated with neurological conditions, such as spastic paraplegia, optic atrophy, and neuropathies. No direct drug interactions, mechanisms of action for therapeutics, or clinical biomarker or safety concerns are currently reported in the main literature sources[1][3][7].
