Fibronectin type III domain containing 3C, pseudogene (FNDC3CP)

Target
FNDC3CP
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, noncoding RNA, does not encode a functional protein
01

Overview

FNDC3CP (Fibronectin type III domain containing 3C, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene identified on chromosome X. Pseudogenes are stretches of DNA that resemble functional genes but have lost their protein-coding potential due to disabling mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons. As a pseudogene, FNDC3CP is not transcribed or translated into a functional protein and is not considered a therapeutic target. Like other pseudogenes, it may participate in gene regulation as a source of noncoding RNA, but no specific biological or clinical role has been described for FNDC3CP. Pseudogenes can hinder genetic assays by causing PCR or gene annotation errors.

02

Mechanism of action

None. No drug mechanisms are reported for FNDC3CP

03

Biological functions

None established for FNDC3CP specifically.Pseudogenes in general may have regulatory RNA functions such as competing endogenous RNA activityserving as miRNA decoysor being processed into siRNAs with gene regulatory activities
04

Disease associations

No direct disease associations for FNDC3CP.Some pseudogenes participate in cancer or other diseases by regulating related protein-coding genes, but this is not established for FNDC3CP.
