Target intelligence / Profile preview
FtsZ is a highly conserved, essential protein in bacteria and archaea that plays a central role in cell division. It is considered the prokaryotic homolog of tubulin. FtsZ assembles into a dynamic ring structure at the future site of cytokinesis, known as the Z-ring, which serves as a scaffold and potentially generates constriction force. It is a target for antibacterial agents.
