The fission 1 homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000265453) is a DNA sequence in the human genome that resembles the functional FIS1 gene, which encodes a protein involved in mitochondrial fission, but this pseudogene does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes are formed by gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically accumulate mutations that disable protein coding. They are classified as processed or unprocessed and serve mainly as evolutionary remnants; in rare cases, pseudogenes may have regulatory effects, but these are exceptional. This pseudogene is not suitable for therapeutic targeting since it lacks function and does not interact with drugs.
