FLNB antisense RNA 1 (FLNB-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the opposite DNA strand at the FLNB locus. As a natural antisense transcript, it likely participates in gene expression regulation, mainly via cis mechanisms—affecting transcription, splicing, or chromatin structure in its genetic neighborhood. It is not thought to encode a protein or act as a traditional drug target (receptor or enzyme), but such antisense lncRNAs are increasingly studied for roles in cancer, development, and as possible candidates for RNA-targeting therapeutics (e.g., antisense oligonucleotides). The specific functions and clinical relevance of FLNB-AS1 remain to be fully elucidated, but parallels to other antisense lncRNAs suggest a likely role in fine-tuning FLNB gene expression and possibly contributing to disease phenotypes through regulatory interactions.
