Flt3-interacting zinc finger protein 1 (FIZ1) is a zinc finger-containing transcription factor that interacts with the cytoplasmic catalytic domain of FLT3 (Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3) in a kinase-independent manner following receptor stimulation. It is suggested to act as a transcriptional repressor of NRL (neural retina leucine zipper) function in photoreceptors, but does not appear to affect CRX-mediated transactivation. FIZ1 may play a role in retinal development and maintenance, but its precise functions and disease associations remain under-characterized in current literature. There is no evidence it is a direct therapeutic target, nor are there approved drugs or established safety concerns related to FIZ1 in humans.
