Fluid

The term 'Fluid' does not refer to a specific canonical target molecule, protein, or receptor in human pharmacology or biotechnology. Instead, it is a general physiological classification for the water-based liquids found in the body, including intracellular fluid (ICF) and extracellular fluid (ECF), the latter of which encompasses blood plasma, interstitial fluid, and cerebrospinal fluid. While fluids serve as the essential medium for drug distribution and contain thousands of specific molecular targets—such as enzymes, transport proteins, and signaling receptors—the term 'Fluid' itself is too non-specific to be considered a singular therapeutic target. Clinical management involving 'Fluid' typically focuses on maintaining or restoring fluid balance (homeostasis) and electrolyte concentrations in conditions like congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, or shock. Drugs such as diuretics, vasopressin receptor antagonists (vaptans), and various intravenous crystalloids are used to modulate fluid volume and composition by acting on specific molecular targets like ion channels (e.g., NKCC2) or receptors (e.g., V2 receptor), rather than 'Fluid' as a whole. Consequently, 'Fluid' is identified as an incorrect or category-level entry for a target-specific database.
