Overview

Fluid volume overload, also known as hypervolemia or fluid overload, is an increase in total body fluid, often manifesting as expansion of the extracellular fluid compartment and leading to symptoms such as edema, weight gain, and pulmonary congestion. It typically occurs secondary to diseases like heart failure, kidney failure, nephrotic syndrome, or cirrhosis, and is associated with complications in multiple organ systems due to impaired fluid regulation and excretion.
