Overview

FLVCR1 antisense RNA 1 (FLVCR1-DT) is a long noncoding RNA gene located adjacent to the protein-coding FLVCR1 gene, which encodes a heme transporter involved in erythropoiesis and neuronal function[2][5][6]. FLVCR1-DT itself is noncoding and presumed to act through regulatory RNA mechanisms, possibly influencing FLVCR1 gene expression, splicing, or chromatin structure. While FLVCR1-DT is sometimes referenced alongside FLVCR1 due to its genomic proximity and antisense orientation, it is not a transporter, receptor, enzyme, or protein, and thus not considered a direct therapeutic target. Most functional studies and disease associations relate to the FLVCR1 protein rather than FLVCR1-DT; however, antisense and divergent transcripts often play roles in molecular regulation or disease through modulation of nearby genes. As of now, no direct biological function, disease mechanism, drug interaction, or biomarker status has been established for FLVCR1-DT itself[5].

Biological functions

Other (may regulate FLVCR1 gene expression or splicing through RNA-mediated mechanisms; no reported direct cellular function and not a protein-coding gene)
03

Disease associations

Other (possible indirect involvement through regulation of the protein-coding FLVCR1 gene, which is implicated in Diamond-Blackfan anemia, posterior column ataxia with retinitis pigmentosa, and neurodevelopmental disorders, but direct links for FLVCR1-DT remain unestablished)
