FLT1, also known as VEGFR-1, is a receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a critical role in angiogenesis and vasculogenesis. It binds VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and PlGF. While it has lower intrinsic kinase activity compared to VEGFR2, it acts as a modulator of angiogenic signaling, serving as both a signaling receptor and a decoy to limit ligand availability for other receptors. Elevated levels of the soluble form, sFlt-1, are implicated in preeclampsia due to its antiangiogenic effects. Genetic variations in FLT1 are associated with cancer prognosis.
